Build a city and farm at the same time
Township lets you build a farm, and then start building a small town where you may grow your farming business into a food and entertainment empire. It is a game for children, it is a city-building/farming game, and there are mini-games in between the maintenance and building tasks.
Build your farm and unlock new buildings
Township looks a lot like Farmville, and you are also tasked with building a farm, taking care of your crops, and taking care of your animals. There is less emphasis on social sharing than with Farmville, and the game also tries to evolve from farming to city building in a way that Farmville tried and failed. For example, you are harvesting vegetables, you buy a restaurant, and then you feed customers your carrots in your meals. It has the shine and cartoony feel that most mobile games have, and it has very simple controls that have been translated from touchscreens to the PC very well.
An indistinct game progression arc
Township looks a little like a FarmVille clone where the developers started adding buildings a little too much until it became a farming and city-building game. The progression arc doesn't make a lot of sense. For example, one day you are building a barn to keep cows in, and the next you are building a zoo to entertain people. However, the indistinct and almost ad-hoc way the game progresses makes the grind a little more interesting because it is difficult to figure out what will come next.
